There was a minor software update on my Blackberry Q10 a few weeks ago. As you can see, the file size was only 17MB in size.
According to the screenshot, the software update is to version 10.2.1.2977.
The update process was straightforward and after accepting the update, I was presented with the screenshot below asking me to restart the device.
After my device restarted, my device was updated without any issues. While my device restarted, even though my Blackberry Q10 still had over 80% power remaining, I plugged it into the electrical outlet in order to be on the safe side.
In terms of the update, I've been using it for a few weeks now and I don't notice anything significant. The two major issues that I have with my Blackberry Q10 still exists. It still gets unusually hot after using an internet enabled application for a few minutes and the battery doesn't seem to last as long as it used to back when it was running a version of Blackberry 10.1.x

I have the same issue with my BlackBerry z10
ReplyDeleteThank you aliu itopa for taking the time to read and post your comment on my blog. Yes, the battery drain issue and the overheating issue is a real nuisance.
Deletei newly purchased bb z10 with os 10.2.1.2977. i'm got getting the update to 10.3.2.x. it was showing as "you have the latest update". can we fix this???????
ReplyDeleteThank you "Unknown" for taking the time to read and post your comment on my blog. Unfortunately in order to get an OS upgrade, it will depend on where you purchased your phone from. Just like almost all phone manufacturers (iPhones and Nexus phones are the exception), the OS update for the phone depends on the manufacturer making available the OS update available AND the phone carrier approving/customizing the OS update.
DeleteFor Blackberry 10 devices (like your BB Z10), what this means is if you purchased your BB Z10 from your phone carrier, you will need to wait until they approve the OS on their network. If the phone was purchased directly from Blackberry, it will bypass the carrier approval process. During the carrier "approval" process, the carrier will also customize the OS to include any apps/programs specific to their network.
For iPhones & Nexus phones regardless of where they were purchased from (whether directly from Apple or Google or from a particular phone carrier), the OS updates bypass the carrier aspect almost entirely
For Android phones like Samsung, etc., it is more complicated than with Blackberry phones since with Android phones, Google will make a version of the OS available (ex: KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, etc.), the phone manufacturer (Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony, etc.) will then take this OS and customize it for certain phones that they want to have that OS. They will then make it available to the phone carrier where the phone carrier will do further customization of it and then make it available for those people who purchased the phones from the phone carrier.
Since Blackberry makes both the Blackberry OS 10 and the phone, it is a much simpler process than it is with Android phones. It needs to go through the phone carrier if the phone originally was purchased through the phone carrier but if the phone was purchased originally from Blackberry, you bypass the carrier's approval process and you will eventually get their OS updates. If the phone originally was purchased from a phone carrier, it is possible that you will not receive a Blackberry update because the phone carrier did not approve it.
I hope this answers your question.
